Taunting from beneath the stern boards it’s ready to break like my heart. The growling 1000 RPM voice inside my head. A beast that lives inside us all. A beast like my Perkins 4108.

Perkins 4108 is a musical composition made from a recording of my Perkins 4108 diesel engine on a narrow boat trip up the Kennet and Avon Canal between Bristol and Bath. A trip both terrifying and life affirming. 

All of the sounds in the piece have been created using custom built granular synthesis software that transforms the recording of my engine to the music you hear. Music that mirrors the complex  relationship I have with this old machine.
